What to include
Bugs are much easier to fix with a little context. Where you can, mention:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version — Settings › General › About.
- The app version, shown at the bottom of the app's Settings screen.
- What you did, what happened, and what you expected instead.
Please do not send your backup file or screenshots of real amounts. They contain your actual spending, and nothing about diagnosing a problem requires them. A description of the steps is enough.
Common questions
How do I back up my data?
In the app: Settings › Backup › Export. You will get a file you can save anywhere — iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Files, or a message to yourself. Optionally encrypt it with a passphrase first.
I lost my passphrase. Can you recover the backup?
No, and neither can anyone else. Encrypted backups use AES-256-GCM with a key derived from your passphrase, and the passphrase is never stored or transmitted. That is what makes the file safe to keep in someone else's cloud storage — and it means a lost passphrase is final. Your unencrypted data is still on your device, so export a fresh backup.
How do I move to a new iPhone?
A normal iPhone backup and restore carries the app's database with it. If you would rather move it by hand, export a backup on the old phone and import it on the new one.
Does it sync between my devices?
No. Syncing requires a server, and there isn't one — that is the trade the app makes deliberately. Moving data between devices is done with an export and an import.
Can I get my data out?
Yes, in two formats. The JSON backup is the complete one and is what the app can read back. The CSV export opens in any spreadsheet and is yours to do anything with — it is export-only, because a spreadsheet cannot carry recurring rules, category colours or the ids that let a re-import update rows instead of duplicating them.
How do I delete everything?
Delete the app. Its database goes with it, and because no copy exists anywhere else, that is permanent. Export a backup first if you want to keep your history.
